Here is a picture I painted in 2003. It's a tribute to 9/11 and the World Trade Center. The flames on the candles are deliberately dim: a nod to the occasions in New York City when they dim the lights on Broadway during times of great sorrow.
The wax rolling down the candle on the left represents the tears we all shed.
The wax on the candle on the right has melted, but it is becoming stronger...it becomes more solid as we regain our composure (The healing process) and look to the future.
The scarring on the candle on the left (North Tower) represents the attack in the car park of WTC1 in 1993.
But let us not forget: the terrible tragedy that befell NYC, Washington and Pennsylvania on that awful day is not unique to the Western world.
For we create a 9/11 for citizens in countries who do not share our political beliefs on a regular basis, through our thoughtless, psychotic and racist foreign policies. (Whether it is because we need their oil, or we would rather replace their democratically elected leaders with money grabbing, right-wing sympathising Tin Pot Gods).
